Manchester rentals could increase with more retail attractions

People looking to rent or buy Manchester property could be attracted to the Offerton district of Stockport, following announcements that the council has secured a compulsory purchase order to assemble land for a scheme to build a new shopping precinct.

It has said that it will work with the owners of the centre and the developers Tenbest to begin the construction of the new site.

Around £200,000 has already been spent on highway resurfacing, new crossing facilities and enhanced street lighting.

Offerton precinct and Lisburne Lane garage will be developed as new retail hubs, featuring large public areas and a supermarket.

Interest in the Stockport area may have already been buoyed by the news last week that the media giant Sky plans to locate one of its largest customer service centres there – potentially generating over 500 new jobs.

In addition, the regeneration aims could be helped by new proposals put forward last month to unclog the Manchester train network and make it easier for people to travel across the city.
